THE

INTEROCEPTIVE  REALM

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Research:
My research explores how the brain employs predictive coding to manage stress and how somatic techniques can help regulate the nervous system from a biological perspective.
Project:
This project aims for individuals to reconnect with their bodies and explore how to effectively calm their nervous system in 5 minutes by integrating somatic based techniques with interactive art.
DEVELOPMENT
I used a Kinect sensor and TouchDesigner to capture body tracking data, developing a custom server in Unreal to receive the XYZ coordinates of the hands and hips. This data was used to generate a real-time 3D preview of the tracked subject. Additionally, I built a 3D mouse interface to streamline the development process.
Grounding
This stage consisted of using body tacking data to trigger different sound sources. By combining physics constraints and developing blueprint code I was able to map the position data to each quadrant.
Breathwork
For this stage I integrated the Wim Hof breath work  with visual feedback.  By creating animations, widget blueprints, and audio-reactive particle systems, I created a guided and engaging experience.
Progressive Muscle
Relaxation
This stage consisted of tensing different muscle groups to relax. I used an avatar from Ready Player Me and added the motion capture data from the Kinect through LiveLink. I then used particle systems to point out which muscles they should tense.
